Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum are mourning the death of their dog Lulu.

The former couple paid tribute to Lulu in Instagram posts Wednesday after the "sweet and fierce" pup died of cancer.

Dewan shared a slideshow of photos featuring Lulu throughout the years. Some of the pictures show the pet with Dewan and Tatum's daughter, Everly, now 5.

"To our sweet and fierce Lulu... thank you for being the best dog in the entire world and for fighting cancer as long as you did. Thank you for your tireless love, protection and humor. Thank you for the adventures," Dewan captioned the post.

"Heartbroken doesn't even come close to how it feels. But you will live on forever in our hearts and our memories... fly sweet angel," she added with a heart emoji.

Tatum posted a black and white photo of himself and Lulu on the beach. The picture was taken by photographer Norman Jean Roy.

"I'll see you again baby girl. But you'll always be with me. Always. Thank you Norman jean Roy for this memory," Tatum wrote.

Dewan and Tatum also have a miniature Japanese spitz, Meeka. Dewan told People in April 2017 that Meeka and Lulu, both rescue animals, were "the most spoiled dogs."

"They have every treat, every bone," the star said.

"Lulu is like a fur Chan," she added. "They are the same person. She's wild, she loves adventure, she's always like, 'Where are we going? What are we doing?'"

Dewan and Tatum split in April after eight years of marriage. Dewan is now dating actor Steve Kazee, while Tatum is in a relationship with singer Jessie J.
