WWE TLC: Asuka wins after Ronda Rousey interferes

By Wade Sheridan

Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Ronda Rousey helped change the landscape of the Smackdown women's division when she got involved in the championship match between Becky Lynch Charlotte Flair and Asuka at TLC.

Lynch was defending her Smackdown Women's Championship in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match against Flair and Asuka. A winner could only be declared after a competitor grabbed the hanging title by using a ladder.

Lynch, Flair and Asuka put their bodies on the line during the main event, using multiple weapons including tables, steel chairs and kendo sticks against each other. Lynch at one point delivered a leg drop from the top of a ladder onto Flair that sent her crashing through the announcer's table.

Lynch and Flair battled each other atop a ladder as they reached the title when Rousey made her presence known. The Baddest Woman on the Planet seeked retribution against Flair for how The Queen attacked her last month at Survivor Series and against Lynch for when The Man jumped her backstage previously on Raw.

Rousey got her revenge when she tipped over the ladder Lynch and Flair were standing on. This gave Asuka the perfect opportunity to climb a second ladder and reach the title to become the new Smackdown Women's Champion.

Rousey also competed at TLC, defending her Raw Women's Championship against Nia Jax in a very physical match where Jax was initially able to counter Rousey's Armbar submission hold.

Rousey continued to fight on, however, eventually countering Jax's lauded Facebreaker punch into an Armbar for the victory.

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defended his title against AJ Styles in a highly-competitive bout where Bryan spent most of his time focusing on The Phenomenal One's ribcage.

Styles, despite having to nurse his ribs, still delivered attacks such as his 450 Splash despite how much it would also hurt him. Styles remained focused however, and nearly had the match won after he locked in his Calf Crusher submission hold onto Bryan in the middle of the ring before the champion was able to escape.

Styles, after brawling with Bryan outside the ring and delivering a Phenomenal Forearm, pinned Bryan. Bryan, after the referee counted to two, quickly countered the pin and was able to pin Styles himself for the victory, narrowing escaping defeat.

Other moments from TLC included Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy successfully defending his title against Cedric Alexander; Elias defeating Bobby Lashley in a Ladder Match; Carmella and R-Truth defeating Jinder Mahal and Alicia Fox to win Season 2 of the Mixed Match Challenge; Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Bar successfully defending their titles against The Usos and The New Day; Natalya defeating Ruby Riott in a Tables Match; Finn Balor defeating Drew McIntyre; Rey Mysterio defeating Randy Orton in a Chairs Match; Dean Ambrose defeating Seth Rollins to become the new Intercontinental Champion; and Braun Strowman defeating Raw general manager elect Baron Corbin.

Strowman won the match despite being injured when members of the Raw locker room came out with steel chairs to attack Corbin including a returning Kurt Angle. The victory gives Strowman a championship match against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble while Corbin will now longer be in charge of Raw.
