Ice-T explains his aversion to bagels after viral tweet

Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Ice-T is giving insight into his much-discussed aversion to bagels.

The 60-year-old actor said on Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon that he's had his first bagel since his post about never eating one blew up on Twitter this month.

Ice-T, who plays Sgt. Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: SVU, said his tweet went viral after an episode of the NBC series required him to eat a bagel on the show.

"I acted like I ate it. I didn't eat it," the star said. "Then on Twitter somebody goes, 'Why that kind of bagel?' I said, 'Because it was in the script.' They said, 'What's your favorite?' I said, 'I've never had a bagel,' and then everybody lost their goddamn mind."

"Then I said I've never had coffee, either. I don't know why that's so hard for people to believe," he added.

Ice-T recently ate his first bagel while filming an ad for the dating site Coffee Meets Bagel. He found the bagel too dense and said he prefers sweeter foods.

"I ate one -- and one bite, it felt like a loaf of bread," the actor said. "Why would I eat an unsweetened donut? I'm okay with it -- coffee's cool. I'm good. I like jelly donuts. Let's keep it moving."

"Black coffee -- why would people do that to themselves? They put some cream, a little sugar -- I got it. I prefer tea, not because my name is 'Ice-T,'" he shared.

Ice-T's remark about bagels received over 202,000 likes and 33,000 retweets after he posted Nov. 9.

"White people.. Don't lose your Fn minds because I've never eaten a Bagle.. Take it easy.... lol," he wrote.

Ice-T took to Twitter Wednesday to wish Chanel Nicole, his daughter with wife Coco Austin, a happy third birthday. He posted a photo of the toddler, writing, "man! They grow up fast! Happy 3rd Birthday @BabyChanelWorld."
