Martha Stewart, cookbook author Gaby Dalkin and others helped Simpson put on the dinner for No Kid Hungry, a campaign from the non-profit Share Our Strength seeking to end childhood hunger.

"Over the weekend, I hosted my #Friendsgiving to benefit @nokidhungry," Simpson wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. Like most gatherings with my girlfriends, it was filled with lots of laughing and great food."

"I couldn't have done it without help from my friends: @marthastewart, @greengiant, @foundrentals, @casadeperrin, @bowenhousela, @whambamevents, and @whatsgabycookin. Thanks for helping me create a magical evening!" she added.

Simpson told People she was happy to continue her family's tradition of service of others.

"I am blessed in my life to be able to give back in many ways, and I love teaching my kids that having a giving spirit is the most rewarding way to celebrate," the star said.

"I have learned that is it almost impossible to teach your kids anything you don't life yourself," she added. "We are constantly grateful for the blessings we have been given."

Simpson is parent to 6-year-old daughter Maxwell and 5-year-old son Ace with her husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson. She announced in September she is expecting a baby girl.
