'Moulin Rouge!' to open on Broadway in summer 2019

Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Moulin Rouge! The Musical, a stage version of the 2001 film, will open on Broadway in summer 2019.

Entertainment Weekly reported the production will begin previews June 28 prior to its opening night July 25.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical will show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo star in the adaptation, which also features Danny Burstein, Sahr Ngaujah, Tam Mutu and Robyn Hurder.

"We are thrilled to be bringing Moulin Rouge! The Musical to Broadway," producer Carmen Pavlovic said.

"We are especially delighted that the show is going to the Hirschfeld -- the perfect theater for this production with its lavish architecture and rich history of landmark Broadway shows," she added.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical confirmed the news on its official Twitter account Monday.

"Experience the spectacular! Fan presale begins Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 12 p.m. EST through Friday, Nov. 23 at 9:59 a.m. EST," the post reads.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical made its world premiere at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston, Mass., over the summer. The production is directed by Alex Timbers, with choreography from Sonya Tayeh.

Moulin Rouge! the movie is directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.
