Nov. 13 (UPI) -- John Legend honored his wife, model and television personality Chrissy Teigen, at the 2018 Glamour Women of the Year Awards.

The 39-year-old singer had nothing but praise for Teigen in an emotional speech at the event Monday in New York.

Legend jokingly introduced himself as Teigen's "trophy husband." He went on to list a number of reasons why he and fans love the Lip Sync Battle host.

"I have a career in the music business, but we all know who the star of the family is. She's the heart and soul of the family, too," Legend said, according to Glamour.

"People love her honesty. Her humor. Her beauty and style. Her passion for food. Her sense of adventure and fun. And they love her big, beautiful heart. The heart she wears on her sleeve," he added. "She inspires SO many people and so many women."

The "All of Me" singer also praised Teigen's candidness and influence on social media. Teigen has over 31.7 million followers on Twitter and Instagram.

"Chrissy's biggest impact may be the way she proves that just by being the person you are, you can make a difference. Being who you are, unapologetically," Legend said.

"If you speak up about the things that you believe in, whether it's immigration rights, postpartum depression or the joys of chicken pot pie -- and if you do it authentically and without presumption, you can enlighten another human being, you can brighten people's day," he added.

Legend recalled how Teigen felt overwhelmed and out of place among Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and other powerful women at a previous Time 100 event. He teared up as he concluded his speech.

"Well, I'm here to say that you belong here. I think it has become very clear to Glamour magazine and to many millions of people around the world that you are more than worthy of this honor tonight," the star said.

Legend and Teigen married in September 2013 and are parents to two children, 2-year-old daughter Luna and 5-month-old son Miles. Teigen shared a cute photo Saturday on Instagram of Legend holding Miles amid a pile of teddy bears.
