The 37-year-old Brazilian model announced her retirement in an Instagram post Thursday ahead of her 18th and final appearance in the Victoria's Secret fashion show.
Lima shared a video featuring highlights from her long career with Victoria's Secret. The clip ended with a thank you to the lingerie company.
"Dear Victoria, Thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets, and most importantly not just giving me wings but teaching me to fly. [Love] to the best fans in the [world]! Love, Adriana," Lima captioned the post.
Lima burst into tears during her final appearance Thursday at the 2018 show in New York. She wore an embellished top, lace underwear and delicate feather wings as her closing look.
"I think this year is going to be the highlight of my career," the star told People. "This has been my 18th fashion show and I am still as excited as I was from the first day. I always love to be on runways and being part of the Victoria's Secret show. It's my favorite to do."
Lima said she will redirect her energy toward projects promoting women's empowerment.
"I'm looking forward to support women and being connected to different projects which support women around the world," she said. "That like my future from now on but I am still happy that I am part of Victoria's Secret this year."
Lima first walked the Victoria's Secret fashion show in 1999. She opened the show four times during her career with the brand and wore the Fantasy Bra three times.
