WWE's Sami Zayn undergoes shoulder surgery, out indefinitely

By Wade Sheridan

June 22 (UPI) -- WWE superstar Sami Zayn will be out indefinitely following double rotator cuff surgery.

Zayn, who was last seen competing against Bobby Lashley at WWE pay-per-view event Money in the Bank on Sunday, underwent surgery on his torn right shoulder on Thursday and plans on having the same procedure done on his left shoulder in six to seven weeks.

The grappler spoke with WWE.com about his injury, which he says has been bothering him for months, and how he hopes to return to action by spring 2019.

"That's really not a decision that's up to me," he said of his return "Because of the timeline, I'd love to be in the mix for WrestleMania season; that's the most exciting time of the year for all of us. I think timeline wise, I should be ready in time for WrestleMania, so fingers crossed."

"I want to come back just as good, if not better, than I've ever been," he continued.

Zayn has spent the last few weeks on Monday Night Raw feuding with Lashley whom he lost to at Money in the Bank.

Zayn and fellow wrestler Kevin Owens have recently become the main subjects in Boom! Studios' WWE comic book series in an ongoing storyline titled Fight Forever. The comic will chronicle the pair's alliance, which started in October when Zayn saved Owens during his Hell in a Cell match against Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon.
