Ellen Pompeo posts rare photos of her kids during trip to Italy

May 31 (UPI) -- Ellen Pompeo is giving fans a rare glimpse of her children.

The 48-year-old actress shared cute pictures of 3-year-old daughter Sienna May and 1-year-old son Eli Christopher from her family vacation in Italy.

Pompeo posted a snapshot Wednesday of Eli enjoying pasta at a restaurant in Florence. The photo was taken by friend and photographer Sam Hellmann.

"Ciao Firenze.... we came we saw we conquered! photo credit @hellmannsam," Pompeo captioned the post.

The Grey's Anatomy star also shared a picture of Sienna enjoying a gelato cone.

"What people don't know is I took my bodyguard to Florence with me.... she's fierce and yes a legend and yes takes her gelato very seriously photo credit @hellmannsam," she wrote.

Pompeo is parent to Sienna, Eli and 8-year-old daughter Stella Luna with her husband, music producer Chris Ivery. She discussed Stella with The Hollywood Reporter in January after landing a new, $20 million deal with Grey's Anatomy.

"My 8-year-old daughter gets to come here and see fierce females in charge," the star said. "She loves to sit in the director's chair with the headphones on yelling 'action' and 'cut.' She's growing up in an environment where she's completely comfortable with power."

Pompeo plays Meredith Grey on Grey's Anatomy, which will return for a 15th season on ABC in the fall.
