WWE Raw: Reigns attacks Mahal, Rousey accepts challenge

By Wade Sheridan

May 15 (UPI) -- Roman Reigns got his revenge against Jinder Mahal Monday on Raw after The Modern Day Maharaja had cost him his chance to compete in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Reigns kicked off Raw by daring Mahal to face him like a man in the middle of the ring. Raw general manager Kurt Angle came out instead and told The Big Dog that he blames himself for Mahal interring in Reigns' match but that Reigns will no longer be afforded any further qualifying matches.

Angle instead placed Mahal in a Triple Threat Match against Bobby Lashley and Elias to determine who would be the next Superstar placed into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Reigns, after he was denied entry into the Triple Threat to make it a Fatal 4-Way, promised that he was going to take matters into his own hands.

Reigns would later find Mahal backstage which resulted in a brutal brawl with both men slamming each other into stage equipment. The fight eventually reached the stage area where Angle and other WWE officials were able to save Mahal by putting an end to the melee.

Mahal, after receiving medical attention, was then attacked by Reigns again backstage who finished the job by delivering a powerful Spear that sent his rival through a wall. The assault was enough to make Mahal unable to compete in the main event for a spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Kevin Owens, after losing to Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins, called his friend Stephanie McMahon who used her power as Raw commissioner to have Owens take Mahal's place in the Triple Threat Match.

Owens would go on to defeat Lashley and Elias thanks to interference from his friend Sami Zayn who was able to take out Lashley outside the ring with a Helluva Kick. Owens, inside the ring, then delivered a top-rope Frog Splash to Elias for the three count.

The Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match now includes Owens, Finn Balor, Rusev, The Miz, Braun Strowman and Bobby Roode who also qualified on Raw by defeating No Way Jose and Baron Corbin.

In the women's division, before Raw took place, Ronda Rousey was challenged by Raw Women's Champion Nia Jax to a title match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event. Jax had approached Rousey as she was giving an interview at the NBCUniversal Upfront event in New York City.

Rousey, at first reluctant to accept Jax's offer, agreed to the match as the pair shook hands together before being joined by Smackdown's Charlotte Flair.

Back on Raw, Jax's rival Alex Bliss defeated Bayley and Mickie James to be entered into the Women's Money in the Bank Match which now includes Flair and Ember Moon.

Other moments on Raw included Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel renaming themselves The B-Team and defeating Breezango; Sasha Banks, Natalya and Ember Moon defeating The Riott Squad; Raw Tag Team Champions Woken Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt defeating The Revival; and Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre defeating Finn Balor and Braun Strowman.
