May 15 (UPI) -- Violence and mayhem has taken over the world in the first gameplay trailer for publisher Bethesda Softworks' upcoming first-person shooter sequel, Rage 2.

The clip, released Tuesday, introduces the title's new, open-world wasteland that was created after an asteroid kills the majority of the world's population.

The dystopian setting promises insane action, big guns and a number of vehicles that can be used to survive against hordes of ghoulish enemies.

Taking on the role of Walker, the last ranger of the wasteland who has lost his home and has been left for dead, players will be tasked with bringing down the Authority and their oppressive regime.

"In Rage 2, you'll dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. You can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything," reads the synopsis. "The game brings together two studio powerhouses - Avalanche Studios, masters of open world mayhem and id Software, gods of the first-person shooter - to deliver a carnival of carnage."

Rage 2 is set for release in spring 2019 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. Bethesda will be showing off more of the game at the company's upcoming E3 2018 news conference which takes place on June 10 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
