WWE Elimination Chamber: Reigns survives, Rousey slams Triple H

By Wade Sheridan

Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The road to WrestleMania continued Sunday at WWE Elimination Chamber where Roman Reigns earned his right to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.

Reigns became the No. 1 contender and punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania by winning the first-ever seven-man Elimination Chamber match that also featured John Cena, Braun Strowman, Elias, Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor.

Strowman dominated the contest throughout and was able to survive multiple attacks by all of the competitors working together. One segment featured The Miz running away from The Monster Among Men by climbing on top of the chamber's holding cell before Strowman caught up to the A-Lister and threw him onto the others.

Strowman, one-by-one, eliminated his competition by using his Running Powerslam before it was down to himself and Shield brothers Reigns and Rollins who began to double-team the towering foe. The Architect, however, quickly turned on Reigns once he had the chance but he was eliminated by Strowman after he faced the giant alone.

Reigns, battered and exhausted, reignited his long-running feud with Strowman and took the fight to his rival. The Big Dog began to gain an advantage after Strowman crashed through a chamber pod. Reigns then delivered three Superman Punches and two Spears in order pin Strowman for the three count. Afterwards, Reigns was flattened by Strowman with a pair of Running Powerslams and thrown into a chamber pod.

Reigns will challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 34 on April 8.

Also at Elimination Chamber, former UFC star Ronda Rousey signed her WWE contract during a special ceremony hosted by Raw general manager Kurt Angle and his superiors, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Rousey said that competing in the WWE was a dream come true and Triple H promised her that she would be given no special treatment and that the contract guaranteed a match at WrestleMania. As Rousey began to sign on the dotted line, she became distracted by Angle and Triple H having a disagreement.

Angle then stated how Triple H and McMahon really felt about their new signee, explaining to Rousey how they wanted to keep her down after she had embarrassed the authority figures years prior at WrestleMania 31. Rousey, after hearing that McMahon called her a "has-been," got in the face of the Raw commissioner before Triple H attempted to break things up.

It was then that Rousey lifted up Triple H and slammed him through the signing table. McMahon, in retaliation then slapped Rousey before fleeing. Rousey then signed her WWE contract and tossed it onto the hurt Triple H.
