Prince Harry, Meghan Markle visit Edinburgh Castle

Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle charmed crowds Tuesday during an outing to Edinburgh Castle.

The 33-year-old British royal and 36-year-old American actress were all smiles as they made their first official joint visit to Scotland.

Prince Harry and Markle were greeted by well-wishers and a Shetland pony named Cruachan, who serves as the mascot of The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The couple laughed as the pony attempted to nip Prince Harry's fingers.

"Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are greeted on arrival at Edinburgh Castle by the Band of the Royal Marines and the mascot of The Royal Regiment of Scotland, Shetland pony Cruachan," Kensington Palace captioned a video of the moment on Twitter.

Prince Harry and Markle, who wore a Burberry coat in blue and green tartan plaid, made their way inside the castle to observe a long-standing tradition.

"Inside the Castle, Prince Harry and Ms. Markle observe the firing of the One O'clock Gun, a tradition which dates back to 1861 marking time for ships in the Firth of Forth," Kensington Palace wrote.

Prince Harry and Markle are touring cities in the U.K. ahead of their wedding in May as a way to introduce the actress to her new home. The couple shared new details about their upcoming nuptials in a series of tweets Monday.
