Drake goes on charity spending spree in Miami

Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Drake has gone on an altruistic spending spree, writing big checks for women's shelters, scholarships and even grocery shoppers in Miami.

The rapper was in town to film a video for his recently released God's Plan album at Miami Senior High. While there, he performed for the students and then donated $25,000 to the school and promised to provide the students with new uniforms designed by his OVO clothing brand.

Drake then stopped by the University of Miami campus and gave a $50,000 check to Destiny James, a public health student, after he read a scholarship application essay she wrote about growing up in a poor, single-parent household in South Carolina, The State reported.

James says she plans to get her master's degree and then wants to return to South Carolina to work on disease prevention in the state's rural towns.

Drake didn't stop there.

He went on to donate $10,000 to UM's Donna E. Shalala MusicReach Program, which pairs underserved students in nearby communities with teachers and mentors in the university's Frost School of Music, according to the Miami Hurricane.

After that, he gave $50,000 to Lotus House, a shelter for homeless women, youth and children. And finally, he bought $50,000 worth of groceries for shoppers at Sabor Tropical.

"A real king [went] out and paid for everyone's groceries in the store, all the while encouraging people to buy more lol. BE GOOD AND IT'LL COME RIGHT BACK AROUND!!!" one shopper wrote on Instagram, along with a selfie with Drake.
