Jan. 18 (UPI) -- The Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game comes alive in a first teaser trailer.

The preview for the role-playing game returns viewers to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with glimpses of familiar characters Hagrid, Professor Minerva McGonagall and Professor Snape.

Players will create a student avatar, who attends classes, learns spells and other magical skills, and forms friendships or rivalries with other students. The character's choices in the game will affect their story arc.

Hogwarts Mystery is set in the 1980s prior to Harry Potter's birth, when Nymphadora Tonks and Bill Weasley were students. The game, developed by Jam City and Portkey Games, will debut later this year.

"What an honor it is for Jam City to develop a mobile game for one of the largest and most iconic brands in history," Jam City co-founder Chris DeWolfe said in December after the game was announced.

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is inspired by the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling. The novels were adapted into eight movies starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
