Kenny Omega defeats Chris Jericho at NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 12

Jan. 4 (UPI) -- IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega defeated Chris Jericho Thursday at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's biggest event of the year, Wrestle Kingdom 12.

The match, known as Alpha vs. Omega after Jericho referred to himself as the Alpha of the wrestling world, was dubbed by many as a crossover dream match due to Jericho's long history competing in WWE.

Jericho had issued a challenge to Omega in November at NJPW's Power Struggle pay-per-view event after the wrestlers had been feuding for weeks on Twitter. The rivalry was personal as Jericho is upset with Omega's claim that he is the "best in the world."

"You're gonna have to kill me if you wanna win," Omega said previously in an interview about the match.

The bout reflected the pair's animosity towards each other as the No Disqualification match featured the use of chairs and multiple tables.

Key moments included Omega crash landing onto a table, Jericho delivering a Powerbomb onto the ringside floor to Omega and Jericho going through a table after Omega delivered a knee to his face.

Omega would win the match after he delivered his patent One Winged Angel finisher to Jericho onto a chair to earn the three count.

Other moments from Wrestle Kingdom 12 included IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada defeating Tetsuya Naito in the second main event of the night; Hiroshi Tanahashi defeating Jay White to retain his IWGP International Championship; Will Ospreay defeating Marty Scurll, KUSHIDA and Hiromu Takahashi in a 4-Way Match for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship; The Young Bucks defeating Roppongi 3K for IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship; and Kota Ibushi defeating Cody among others.
