Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Former couple Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky reunited in New York this week.
The 27-year-old actress, who starred in Aronofsky's movie mother!, stepped out with the 48-year-old director Wednesday on the Lower East Side, according to Page Six.
Lawrence and Aronofsky were spotted smiling as they strolled with the actress' dog Pippi. Sources said Lawrence is just "friends" with Aronofsky, who reportedly headed to Amsterdam after the outing.
E! News reported Lawrence and Aronofsky are hanging out casually and seeing where their relationship goes.
"They are friends. They are not officially back together but are spending time together again," an insider said.
"They never stopped speaking after they broke up," the source added. "They care about each other. They are just seeing what happens."
E! previously reported Lawrence and Aronofksy called it quits in October. The actress said in a Variety "Actors on Actors" interview published in November that poor reception of mother! caused strain with Aronofsky.
"I was doing double duty of trying to be a supportive partner while also being like, 'Can I please, for the love of God, not think about mother! for one second?'" she recounted. "He would start reading me reviews and I finally was like, 'It's not healthy!'"
Lawrence will next star in Red Sparrow and is also slated to reprise Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
