Dec. 11 (UPI) -- WWE Superstar Rich Swann was arrested in Gainesville, Fla. Saturday night where he was charged with falsely imprisoning and battering his wife, Vannarah Riggs.

The incident occurred while Swann was driving Riggs, an independent wrestler known as Su Yung, following one of her matches when the pair got into an argument.

"[Swann] was critiquing [his wife's] performance and began getting angry with her," the Gainesville Police Department said in an arrest document that was released on Twitter.

Riggs then exited the car in the middle of traffic which led to Swann grabbing her by the arm and then around her neck. "He placed her in a headlock and dragged her back to the vehicle," the arrest statement continues and cites witnesses proclaiming that the wrestler "shoved her back in the car while she screamed for help."

The car was not in park during the confrontation and continued to move until it hit a telephone poll. Swann denied to police that he touched his wife and that Riggs got back into the car on her own.

WWE soon issued a statement noting that Swann was suspended indefinitely.

"WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest," the company said.

Swann made an appearance before a judge and was set to be released on his own recognizance on Sunday, ABC News reported, citing a Alachua County jail representative.

Swann, a former Cruiserweight Champion, competed in WWE's Cruiserweight division on Raw and on the WWE Network exclusive show, 205 Live.
