The Game Awards 2017: How to watch

Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The 2017 Game Awards is set to be livestreamed Thursday night across all major digital, gaming and social platforms and promises to highlight the best the video game industry has to offer.

Former video game journalist and Game Awards executive producer Geoff Keighley will be hosting the event, which takes place live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Game of the Year Award, the top prize of the night, will be decided between Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, online multiplayer shooter PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, and Playstation 4 exclusives Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Other top awards up for grabs include Best Narrative, Best Action Game, Best Role-Playing Game and Best Fighting Game among many others.

The Game Awards will be debuting new trailers for upcoming games with plenty of surprise titles being announced for the first time.

Alternative rock band Phoenix will also be on hand for a live performance.

How to watch

Time: The 2017 Game Awards can be livestreamed starting Thursday at 8:30 p.m. EST on YouTube, Twitch, social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, on gaming platforms such as Playstation 4, Xbox One and Steam and on video game news sites such as IGN and Gamespot.

Where: The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles

Musical performances: Phoenix

Nominees: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, Persona 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn are up for Game of the Year. What Remains of Edith Finch, NieR: Automata, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and Horizon Zero Dawn are competing for Best Narrative. Prey, Destiny 2, Nioh, Cuphead and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus are vying for Best Action Game. South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Final Fantasy XV, Divinity: Original Sin 2, NieR: Automata and Persona 5 are nominated for Best Role-Playing Game and Tekken 7, Nidhogg 2, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Injustice 2 and Arms will be duking it out for Best Fighting Game.

Presenters: The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, famed video game auteur Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro will be on hand to present awards, leading many to believe that the trio will be releasing a new trailer for their collaborative game Death Stranding. Other presenters include Aisha Tyler of Archer fame, actor Andy Serkis from War for the Planet of the Apes, Justin Roiland from Rick and Morty, actress Felicia Day from Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return and Zachary Levi from Chuck.
