Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Twitter announced Tuesday that Wonder Woman and Game of Thrones were the most-tweeted about film and television show of 2017.

Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot in the lead role, was the first solo film adventure for the iconic superhero and brought in over $800 million at the box office worldwide.

The award-winning musical La La Land came in second place with Entertainment Weekly noting that the number of tweets made about the film might be related to how it was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture at the Oscars.

World War II drama Dunkirk came in third followed by Spider-Man: Homecoming, Justice League -- which also featured Wonder Woman, It, Beauty and the Beast, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and Fifty Shades Darker.

HBO's Game of Thrones, with its constant twist and turns, dominated Twitter as the series aired its second-to-last season in 2017.

Netflix's Stranger Things came in second place followed by Big Brother, 13 Reasons Why, Saturday Night Live, The Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, The Voice, Supernatural and Pretty Little Liars.

Stranger Things takes the top spot among streaming-only shows, followed by 13 Reasons Why, Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, Sense8, Narcos, The Get Down, Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, Bojack Horseman and Daredevil.
