An official opening night is planned for Aug. 16. The production features original music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and his longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance; and a script by Garry Marshall and the film's screenwriter J.F. Lawton. Marshall -- who directed the 1990 romantic comedy on which the musical is based -- helped write the stage production before he died in 2016.

The musical is being directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. It will have its world premiere at Broadway in Chicago's Oriental Theatre, beginning March 13.
