Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Raw and Smackdown Live collided Sunday during the 31st annual Survivor Series, the only time of the year when WWE's top two shows battle for brand supremacy.

The event was kicked off by Raw's The Shield consisting of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose taking on Smackdown's The New Day consisting of Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

The match between two of WWE's most dominant groups, broke down multiple times with all six men fighting in and out of the ring at the same time as fans cheered for both popular teams.

The New Day were poised to win after Big E lifted up both Rollins and Ambrose for a double Midnight Hour, however, Reigns was able to strike Big E with a vicious Spear that broke up a three count. After clearing the ring, The Shield then performed on Kingston a Super Triple Powerbomb from the top rope to earn the victory.

Survivor Series also featured a match between WWE's two world champions, Brock Lesnar of Raw who holds the Universal title and AJ Styles of Smackdown who holds the WWE title.

The champion vs. champion bout began with Lesnar taking The Phenomenal One to Suplex City immediately as The Beast was seen throwing Styles around the ring and delivering a hard-hitting knee to his face.

Styles was able to weather the onslaught however after he began targeting Lesnar's knee which kept his formidable foe grounded. Styles then pulled out every move from his arsenal to take down Lesnar including multiple Phenomenal Forearms, a Springboard 450 and his submission maneuver The Calf Crusher which the Universal Champion was able to escape from.

As Styles readied himself for another Phenomenal Forearm, Lesnar caught the high-flyer in the air to deliver a thundering F-5 for the three count.

In the main event, Raw's mens team consisting of general manager Kurt Angle, WWE COO Triple H, Braun Strowman, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe took on the likes of Smackdown's commissioner Shane McMahon, John Cena, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode. The final match would determine which brand reigned supreme as Raw and Smackdown were tied at three victories each from the night's previous matches.

Strowman proved to be a dominant force for Team Raw as The Monster Among Men eliminated Nakamura and Roode with his patent Running Powerslam. Cena and Orton were forced to team up on the towering giant which led to Strowman being put through a table at ringside with help from Smackdown's entire team.

Cena would then help the blue brand gain momentum by eliminating Samoa Joe before he wrestled with Angle, a special moment between the pair as Cena's first match in WWE in 2002 was against the Olympic gold medalist.

Cena was shockingly eliminated, however, after he received a Coup de Grace from Balor and an Angle Slam from the team Raw leader. Orton then eliminated Balor with a perfectly timed RKO before Strowman could re-enter the match.

As Orton and McMahon fought for survival, Smackdown's Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn -- who have been feuding with McMahon -- entered the arena and attacked their boss who later fended them off with a steel chair. The moment was enough to lead to Orton being eliminated by Strowman following a Running Powerslam.

McMahon, who was then caught in a three on one situation, unexpectedly received help from his brother-in-law Triple H who delivered a Pedigree to Angle to help get him eliminated. As The Game helped McMahon to his feet seemingly switching sides, Triple H then hit McMahon for a Pedigree giving Raw the overall victory at Survivor Series.

Not happy with what went down, Strowman then delivered two Running Powerslams to Triple H following the match.

Other moments from Survivor Series included Elias defeating Matt Hardy; Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore defeating Kalisto; Owens and Zayn defeating Breezango; Team Raw women's team consisting of Asuka, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Alicia Fox and Nia Jax defeating Smackdown's Becky Lynch, Carmella, Naomi, Natalya and Tamina; United States Champion Baron Corbin of Smackdown defeating Intercontinental Champion The Miz from Raw; Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos defeating Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus; and Smackdown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair defeating Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss.
