Matthew Morrison, Whoopi Goldberg to star in Broadway benefit reading of 'Damn Yankees'

Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Matthew Morrison is scheduled to play the lead role of Joe Hardy in the Dec. 11 benefit concert reading of the classic musical Damn Yankees on Broadway.

The Glee star will join Whoopi Goldberg as Applegate, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Lola, Danny Burstein as Van Buren and Victoria Clark as Meg. Kathleen Marshall will direct the show.

Proceeds from the one-night-only event at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre will go to support Roundabout Theatre Company's many programs and initiatives, organizers said in a press release.
