Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Amy Schumer's dad stood up with "help" Thursday after decades of being in a wheelchair.

The 36-year-old actress and comedian shared an emotional Instagram video of her father, Gordon Schumer, standing with mechanical assistance. Gordon was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 12.

"My dad stood today with the help of a device. But he stood. Thank you to his nurse Sam. Dr Kanter and Dr Sadiq everyone at Tish for their MS stem cell work. Also Pure Prairie League for their sons 'Aime' his favorite song. We had a good day," she captioned the clip.

The video shows Gordon standing as Schumer and hospital staff look on. He and Schumer joke about the Pure Prairie League song "Amie," which plays in the background.

"I hate this song," Gordon says with a laugh before pointing to Schumer, "She was named after this song."

"We haven't stood next to each other for a while," the actress answers.

Schumer has documented other sweet moments with Gordon, including when she introduced her dad to Goldie Hawn in May. She opened up about her dad's battle with MS in an interview with Barbara Walters in 2015.

"He's not good," the star said. "Some days he's really good and he's with it and we're joking around. And some days I go to visit my dad and it's so painful I can't believe it."
