Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Famed Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis is leaving the company and has signed an exclusive deal with rival DC Comics.

"We are beyond thrilled to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multiyear, multi-faceted deal," DC Comics said in a statement released on Twitter Tuesday.

"He's one of the premiere writers in the industry having created so many unforgettable stories whenever he's been and we can't wait to see what he has planned for the DC Universe," they continued.

Bendis also commented on the switch on Twitter writing, "This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy."

"I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come! Stay tuned!" he continued.

Bendis, who has played an important role in shaping Marvel's comic book line for over 15 years, is best known for penning noteworthy comics such as Ultimate Spider-Man, New Avengers, Daredevil, House of M, Secret Invasion, Siege and Civil War II among many others.

Bendis also created new characters at Marvel such as Jessica Jones who now stars in her own Netflix series and Miles Morales who becomes a new Spider-Man.
