Oct. 28 (UPI) -- British actor Charlie Heaton missed the Season 2 premiere party for his TV show Stranger Things because authorities caught him allegedly carrying cocaine at Los Angeles International Airport.

TMZ said Friday the 23-year-old flew in from London last weekend, but wasn't allowed to enter the United States after officials discovered trace amounts of cocaine in his bag.

Heaton doesn't have a police record, so he was allowed to withdraw his application to enter the country and return home instead of being arrested.

"Foreign nationals may be inadmissible due to the commission of a crime involving drug possession," Jaime Ruiz, branch chief of strategic media engagement for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told The Hollywood Reporter. "CBP officers treat all international travelers with integrity, respect and professionalism while keeping the highest standards of security."

The entertainment trade newspaper said Heaton admitted to law enforcement officials he had consumed the drug.

The incident meant the actor was not able to attend Thursday's Los Angeles party where co-stars Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo and Paul Reiser celebrated the release of the second season of their 1980s sci-fi drama.
