Damon, Clooney speak out against Weinstein

Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Matt Damon and George Clooney stated Monday on Good Morning America that they were unaware of Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct.

The actors were appearing on the morning talk show to promote their latest film, Suburbicon which arrives in theaters on Oct. 27. Clooney and Damon attended the premiere alongside their wives on Sunday.

"When people say like, 'Everybody knew,' Like, yeah, I knew he was an [expletive]," Damon said alongside Clooney about what he knew regarding Weinstein as the producer is caught in the middle of sexual assault scandal.

"I knew he was a womanizer," Damon continued. "I wouldn't want to be married to the guy. But ... the criminal sexual predation is not something that I ever thought ... was going on. Absolutely not."

Clooney added how Weinstein in the past had told him about affairs he was having with women in Hollywood, but that he never believed him.

"I didn't really think that they were going have affairs with Harvey, quite honestly. And clearly they didn't," Clooney said. "But the idea that this predator, this assaulter ... was out there silencing women like that ... it's beyond infuriating."

Clooney then detailed how he wants to get to the bottom of the scandal. "The fact that the story is coming out now and the more it comes out, I want know all of it," he said.

Damon also referenced how he heard form his friend Ben Affleck how Weinstein had made sexual advances towards Gwyneth Paltrow.

"I never talked to Gwyneth about it. Ben told me ... but I knew that ... they had come to whatever, you know, agreement or understanding that they had come to, she had handled it," the actor continued. "She was, you know, the first lady of Miramax. And he treated her incredibly respectfully."

Affleck has caught flack from actress Rose McGowan who was among the original women to accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment in a New York Times piece, stating that the Justice League star did nothing after she confided to him how Weinstein had assaulted her.

The exchange led to the resurfacing of a video featuring Affleck groping One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton on MTV's TRL in 2003 and led to makeup artist Annamarie Tendler accusing Affleck of groping her at a Golden Globes party in 2014.

As the sexual assault and harassment claims have stacked up, Weinstein has been fired from The Weinstein Company, expelled from The Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences, which oversees the Oscars, has had his wife Georgina Chapman announce that she is leaving him and has led to him being under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for sexually assaulting an Italian model-actres in 2013.

The Hollywood mogul denies the allegations.
