Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The late Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Nov. 3.

Hollywood Chamber President/Chief Executive Officer and Walk of Fame emcee Leron Gubler, along with members of the Quintanilla family, are expected to unveil her star in front of the Capitol Records building in Hollywood.

Actress, producer, director and Texas native Eva Longoria will also join Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to proclaim Nov. 3 "Selena Day" in the City of Los Angeles.

Quintanilla was a Texas-born singer-songwriter, who was shot and killed by a former employee in 1995. She was 23. Jennifer Lopez portrayed the artist in the 1997 movie, Selena.

"Before there was J. Lo, Shakira or Beyoncé... there was a transformative female artist called.... Selena," Otto Padron, president of Meruelo Media and the official sponsor of the tribute, said in a statement. "Selena is one of the most influential music icons of the 20th century. Her music, style and smile are timeless and now her star will grace our city forever."

"We are honored to continue to be a part of Selena's story and witness this well-deserved recognition, without a doubt she is one of the most influential figures in Spanish music and her legacy will continue to transcend generations," added Victor Gonzalez, president of Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
