Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Gilbert recently met fellow author and "long-lost sister" Cheryl Strayed.

The 48-year-old Eat, Pray, Love writer said in an Instagram post Thursday that she "finally" connected in person with the 49-year-old Wild author over the past weekend.

"That time last weekend when I finally got to meet my beloved friend @cherylstrayed in person (after many years of a relationship via email, the phone, and disappearing into each other's books) and we fell into each other's arms like the long-lost sisters we are," Gilbert captioned a photo with Strayed.

"This was my happiest moment in a long time. #cherylstrayed #bravemagic #hugebeautifulthings #1440multiversity #sisterwriters #chickendouche #iloveyou," she added.

Strayed also gushed about Gilbert in a post on her own account earlier in the week.

"Last week I finally met @elizabeth_gilbert_writer in real life, after we'd been nurturing a friendship via email for years (and after I'd known her through her books for years before that)," the writer recounted. "She is every bit as smart, funny, brilliant, generous, soulful and bad [expletive] as I imagined she'd be, but only if you multiply that by ten thousand."

"We spent three days together, but I feel like I've known her forever," she shared. "What glorious magic, when life works out that way. #sisterhood #abundance #love."

Eat, Pray, Love and Wild were both adapted into films, with the former starring Julia Roberts and Wild featuring Reese Witherspoon. Gilbert last released the book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear in 2015, while Strayed published Brave Enough the same year.
