Oct. 12 (UPI) -- James Van Der Beek shared on Twitter Wednesday that he was the victim of sexual assault as a young actor in Hollywood as news about producer Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct continues to dominant headlines.

"I've had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I've had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger," Van Der Beek tweeted after slamming Weinstein for his actions.

"I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There's a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome," he continued.

Van Der Beek is the latest celebrity to come forward with a sexual assault story following in the footsteps of the several women named in a New York Times report including actresses Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan that first reported on Weinstein's behavior.

"What Weinstein is being accused of is criminal. What he's admitted to is unacceptable - in any industry. I applaud everybody speaking out," the Dawson's Creek alum had written.

On Tuesday, actor Terry Crews shared on Twitter how he was groped by a Hollywood executive in 2016.

"This whole thing with Harvey Weinstein is giving me PTSD. Why? Because this kind of thing happened to ME," Crews stated as he began to recount his sexual assault story.
