Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Ariel Winter's mom says the Modern Family star criticizes her because she "craves attention."

Crystal Workman spoke out on Wednesday's Inside Edition after Winter claimed this month that Workman sexualized her appearance from a young age.

"No, I didn't," Workman said of the allegations. "I don't know what she's talking about."

"She continues to attack me. It's heartbreaking," she added. "I think she wants the headlines. I think she craves attention. If that means throwing your mother under the bus and hurting her and breaking her heart, she's going to do it."

Winter said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Workman started dressing her in revealing outfits at age 7. She implied her mom sexualized her appearance in an attempt to further her career.

"[She dressed me in] the smallest miniskirts, sailor things, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you've ever seen," the 19-year-old actress said.

"People thought I was 24 when I was 12," she added. "If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes."

Winter was legally emancipated from Workman in 2015 after alleging her mom was verbally and physically abusive. She slammed Workman and Inside Edition for the interview in tweets Tuesday.

"If someone loves you and cares about you, they tell you to your face and are right beside you, not on television telling everyone else," the star wrote.

"Feeling sad for @InsideEdition that they have nothing else to report on, and that they feel the need to allow a mother to bash her daughter," she added.
