Natalie Portman stars in first 'Annihilation' teaser trailer

Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Paramount Pictures released the first teaser trailer for Annihilation the upcoming film by Ex Machina director Alex Garland.

The teaser stars Natalie Portman in the lead role of the adaptation of a novel from author Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy.

Portman's character answers a series of questions about a paranormal being while exploring a mysterious land known as Area X where her husband, Oscar Isaac, was sent on a "suicide mission."

Garland wrote and directed Annihilation, which also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Tuva Novotny.

Annihilation is set to arrive in theaters on February 23, 2018.
