Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Hundreds of Harry Potter fans gathered at King's Cross station in London, England, in honor of the final scene of the book series.
Author J.K. Rowling shared a tweet reminding fans that Friday was the day Harry Potter's son left to attend wizarding school at Hogwarts in the finale of the series' seventh and final book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
"Today's the day Albus Severus Potter boards the Hogwarts Express at King's Cross for the first time," she wrote alongside the hashtag "#19yearslater."
Rowling's Pottermore website shared a photo of a large group of fans from around the world dressed in black wizard's robes and scarves representing the fictional schools four houses, as they gathered at Kings Cross to celebrate the end of the series.
"To those with us at King's Cross, and those joining us from all over the world, we wish you a safe and happy journey," the site's Twitter page wrote.
The crowd counted down to 11 a.m. local time, when Potter's son train was scheduled to leave the station, before sharing in a round of applause.
A special performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which takes place 19 years after the original series, was also held in celebration of the day depicted in the book's final scene.
