Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The world of Bungie's upcoming online shooter sequel Destiny 2, comes to life as part of a new live-action trailer.

The clip, released Thursday, features a group of Guardians being given a pep talk by the comedic Cayde-6 (Nathan Fillion), before heading off into battle.

As Cayde-6 explains, the world is nearly wiped out and it's up to the Guardians to protect the last city on earth from the villainous Ghaul.

A number of action-packed battle scenes are then shown, featuring looks at new weapons types, armor pieces and super abilities that will be present in the game -- including the new throwable shield that Defender Titans can use during combat.

"Everything you love about Earth is gone. Except for the Last City. And now a psycho rhino named Ghaul is coming to take that away too. On September 6, it's time to grab some big guns, unite our scattered heroes, and take back our home," reads the synopsis.

The trailer was directed by Kong: Skull Island helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts. "It really did have to do with my love of video games, and sci-fi, and Destiny," the filmmaker said of taking on the project while speaking with Gamespot. "It was just impossible for me to turn down. It had too many things that I love in it."
