Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Celebrity mom Katie Holmes is "not so worried" about her daughter becoming a teenager.

The 38-year-old actress said on Wednesday's episode of Today that she's "enjoying" her time with Suri, her daughter with ex-husband Tom Cruise, while the 11-year-old is still a preteen.

"She is 11 and a half and she's a great girl and she's doing so well and I'm enjoying this time," Holmes told Today anchor Matt Lauer. "I'm not so worried yet about the teenage years."

When Lauer said his 13-year-old daughter, Romy, doesn't find him "as cool as [he] used to be," Holmes jokingly said it wouldn't be a problem with her and Suri.

"I never was cool, I got nothing to lose," the actress responded. "I'm totally ready for this."

Holmes split from Cruise in 2012 after five years of marriage. She called Suri "the most important person" in her life while discussing her approach to parenting in the April issue of Town & Country magazine.

"Her upbringing is paramount to my work right now," the star said. "It's very important that I'm present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there's nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed."

"Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That's a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it's heartbreaking," she said.
