Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The Pantone Color Institute has created a custom-made shade of purple to represent and honor Prince named Love Symbol #2.

The color was inspired by the legendary singer's Yamaha piano which Prince planned to take on tour with him before his death in April 2016 at the age of 57, Pantone announced in collaboration with Prince's estate.

Purple was associated with Prince throughout his career and especially during the release of his 1984 film Purple Rain and its accompanying soundtrack of the same name.

"The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever," entertainment adviser to Prince's estate Troy Carter said in a statement.

"We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, 'the purple one.' A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince's distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince's unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself," added vice president of Pantone Laurie Pressman.
