Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Bruno Mars announced at a Michigan concert he is donating $1 million to aid the victims of the Flint water crisis.

E! News said the 31-year-old music superstar stopped his show at the Palace in Auburn Hills to say some of the proceeds from the event would go to the Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

"I'm very thankful to the Michigan audience for joining me in supporting this cause," Mars said in a statement. "Ongoing challenges remain years later for Flint residents, and it's important that we don't forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster. As people, especially as Americans, we need to stand together to make sure something like this never happens in any community ever again."

"God bless you Michigan!" Mars later said in an Instagram post, which accompanied a selfie of him smiling, and wearing a Motown T-shirt and sunglasses.

God bless you Michigan!
