Aug. 7 (UPI) -- The Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway celebrated the film's 16th anniversary last week.

The 34-year-old actress shared a clip of her character, Mia Thermopolis, from the 2001 movie Thursday following rumors of a third sequel.

"Happy Birthday Princess (Thanks Garry) #sweetsixteen #mia4evah," she captioned the video, paying tribute to the movie's late director, Garry Marshall.

Hathaway played Mia in The Princess Diaries and its 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Julie Andrews, who portrayed Mia's grandmother Clarisse, discussed the possibility of a third film in February.

"There's talk about it," the 81-year-old actress told Buzzfeed. "And [Anne's] very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it."

"I think we might do it in honor of [Garry]," she added. "Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I'm all for it, so if she'd like to... [I'm] not sure what the status is right now."

The Princess Diaries is based on the Meg Cabot novel of the same name. Cabot confirmed interest in a third film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in June, but declined to share details.

"I am not allowed to say," she said of the potential plot. "I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can't. I'm not allowed. But it's really more following the movie than the books."

Hathaway will star in a number of upcoming movies, including Ocean's Eight with Sandra Bullock and Nasty Women with Rebel Wilson.
