Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Britain's Prince Philip is set to retire Wednesday at the age of 96 after 65 years of service. The Duke of Edinburgh's will be making his final public appearance attending the Royal Marines charity parade located outside the Queen's London residence.

The parade will "bring His Royal Highness's individual program to a conclusion, although he may choose to attend certain events, alongside the Queen, from time to time," a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace previously said.
Philip is said to have decided to step away from public life himself and is fully supported by the Queen, Sky News reported.
Buckingham Palace also noted that Queen Elizabeth II has no plans to reduce her official workload. "Her Majesty will continue to carry out a full programme of official engagements with the support of members of the Royal Family," they said in a statement.
Throughout his career, which started in 1952, Philip has made 22,219 solo engagements and has made 5,496 speeches, noted CNN. Wednesday's event marks Philip's 52nd public engagement for 2017.
The Prince's retirement comes after he was released from a London area hospital in June after being treated for an infection from a pre-existing condition.
