Rihanna meets with French president Emmanuel Macron about education

July 27 (UPI) -- Rihanna met with French president Emmanuel Macron in Paris to discuss global education efforts.

The 29-year-old Barbadian singer spoke Wednesday with the president and first lady Brigitte Macron on behalf of the Global Partnership for Education and her Clara Lionel Foundation.

"I just had the most incredible meeting with the president and the first lady," Rihanna told reporters after the sit-down, according to a clip from ABC News.

"They were incredibly welcoming to us," she said. "We focused on the topic of education from global aspects and we're going to make a very big announcement this coming September. We are going on to do even more work this October in Africa."

"I was so inspired and impressed with his leadership and I can't wait for you guys to hear where this is going to go, but I think this is the year for education," the star added. "Thank you so much, and stay tuned."

Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation, a non-profit focused on benefiting impoverished communities, in 2012, and was named a global ambassador for the Global Partnership for Education in September.

"Still can't believe how incredible yesterday was!" the singer captioned a photo of herself and Macron for her 55 million Instagram followers.

"I am tremendously impressed and inspired by how committed President @emmanuelmacron and Madame First Lady Brigitte Macron both are to making a global impact on education!" she added. "It was quite an honor to meet and discuss our plans for the near future! @claralionelfdn #CLF #GPE #GlobalCitizen."

Rihanna asked several world leaders, including Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to support education funding last month on Twitter. Macron told his followers Wednesday that he's "committed" to the cause.
