'Wonder Woman 2' set for 2019 release date

July 26 (UPI) -- Fans of Wonder Woman will get a sequel, but will have to wait until December 2019 to get it.

Warner Bros. Studio spokesman Jack Horner announced that Wonder Woman 2 will be released on Dec. 13, 2019 with actress Gal Gadot returning in the starring role.

Wonder Woman has been one of the biggest hits of 2017, grossing $780 million worldwide, including nearly $400 million in U.S. ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo.

The comic book movie has also impressed critics, who have been tough on superhero movies of late, with a 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

But fans will get an opportunity to see Gadot as Wonder Woman before the sequel comes out. The Israeli model-turned-movie star will next appear as Wonder Woman in Justice League, co-starring Ben Affleck, which is expected to hit theaters on November 17.
