July 16 (UPI) -- Recording artist Aaron Carter is facing several misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest in Georgia Saturday night.

The Habersham County sheriff's office told CNN the 29-year-old singer was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

ABC News reported Carter's girlfriend Madison Parker, who was a passenger in the car, was charged with possession of marijuana, obstruction of law enforcement officers and possession of drug-related objects.

The younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter is an avid tweeter, but has not addressed his reported arrest on social media yet.

"Due to transportation issues, Aaron will not make his set time tonight in Kansas City. He promises to come back soon. He apologizes to his fans in KC and Mix93.3," a post on his account said Saturday afternoon.

He has an acoustic performance scheduled for Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala.

Aaron Carter made headlines last month when he was briefly hospitalized after he complained he was being relentlessly body-shamed by fans about his weight loss.

He said at the time he has a hiatal hernia, which makes it difficult for him to eat, and he is also still mourning the recent death of his father.
