Every Sega game will be available for free on mobile phones

June 25 (UPI) -- From Sonic the Hedgehog to Madden '94, every Sega game ever created will be available to play for free on your cell phone.

Sega Forever will eventually offer "every Sega game ever released from every console era," the company said on its website. That will include the Master System, Genesis/Mega Drive, Dreamcast, and others.

The app will be available on both Android and iOS systems.

But not every game will be available right away. The company is planning to release games slowly, beginning with the following: Altered Beast, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Phantasy Star II, and Sonic The Hedgehog. It will then release games every two weeks.

"We've never before done something that really crosses all of the different gaming eras, and isn't prejudice against someone because they grew up in the '80s versus the '90s," Sega executive Mike Evans told Metro UK. "And so what we're trying to do is look at how we can take content that spans two decades and make it all available in the same place."

The games will be free, but will come with ads. However, ads can be removed for the price of $1.99 per game.

The Sega Forever website says the new plan will allow users to save games in progress, play offline, and take part in leader boards to compare high scores with other users from around the world. The games are also planned to be "adapted specifically for mobile devices while remaining faithful to the original games."
