June 16 (UPI) -- Former Olympic gymnast Son Yeon-jae is dating musician Choi Jong-hoon.
The 23-year-old retired South Korean rhythmic gymnast recently started seeing the 27-year-old F.T. Island guitarist, Son's management agency, Galaxia SM, confirmed Wednesday, according to The Chosun Ilbo.
"Son and Choi just started dating and are still getting to know each other," Choi's agency, FNC Entertainment, added.
Sources said a mutual friend introduced Son and Choi. Son was reportedly having "a tough time" following her retirement in February and "found comfort and solace" in her relationship with Choi.
The Korea Herald reported Son and Choi were first linked this week after a local tabloid released photos of the pair on an apparent date. The pictures showed the couple with gifts, flowers and a cake on May 27 -- the day before Son's birthday.
Insiders said Son and Choi have a shared interest in sports, including golf. Son announced her retirement Feb. 22 after more than a decade in competition, and Choi last released the album Where's the Truth? with F.T. Island in July.
