Kelly Ripa, Wyclef Jean inducted into New Jersey Hall of Fame

May 8 (UPI) -- Kelly Ripa was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame Sunday during an event that also inducted the likes of Wyclef Jean, Tommy James and Ray Liotta.

"I really am thrilled that I got to share the night with my parents and my children. I'm only sorry my husband isn't here - he's working, but it's nice to have all of my family and so many friends here," Ripa said about how the best part of the evening was spending time with her family.

Jean who performed onstage alongside James, gave a tribute to his father who brought his family to America from Haiti.

"Don't forget, this is what being an immigrant is about," the musician shared of what his father would tell him as they went to work together. "This is what these United States is about. As long as you do something with pride, as long as you believe in it, and as long as you don't break the law, it gives you an opportunity to be somebody."

The New Jersey Hall of Fame in its ninth year, honors New Jersey natives who have distinguished themselves in music, movies, books, business, sports and public service.

Other inductees included mystery writer Carol Higgins Clark and journalist Connie Chung.
