April 19 (UPI) -- Matt Anoa'i, a former WWE Superstar known to wrestling fans as Rosey, has died at the age of 47.
A part of the famed Anoa'i wrestling dynasty, Rosey is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Sika and is the older brother to current Superstar and three-time WWE Champion Roman Reigns.
Rosey made his WWE debut in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal, real name Eddie Fatu who would later star in the company as Umaga, as part of a tag team named 3-Minute Warning.
Rosey would later form a fan favorite superhero tag team with Hurricane Helms where he was known as the Super Hero in Training. The colorful duo would go on to win the Tag Team Championships in 2005.
"The Anoa'i family is mourning the loss of Sika's son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death," his family said in a statement.
"We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much. In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all," they continued.
"Our family appreciates your prayers and continued support during this very difficult time."
A number of former WWE Superstars and personalities shared their condolences on social media including Helms who shared on Instagram a photo of himself hugging Rosey inside the ring with the caption, "My partner, my friend."
