April 17 (UPI) -- Disney and Lucasfilm have given fans a behind-the-scenes look at their plans for the upcoming Star Wars-themed lands being created at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

"One of the things I'm most excited about is inviting our guests into that Star Wars universe, being able to see it in person and to touch it and to smell it and taste it and kind of live that amazing Star Wars experience for themselves," says Scott Trowbridge, creative executive at Walt Disney imagineering in a teaser trailer for the upcoming theme park expansions.

The clip includes concept art for the area which will include two new rides along with shops, shows, activities and various Star Wars characters walking around for Disney guests to enjoy and interact with.

"Our goal as we set out on this journey was to create a place that was so authentic, so real that when our guests step inside they're there, they're in the movie," adds executive creative director at Walt Disney imagineering Chris Beatty.

The Star Wars lands were further detailed over the weekend during Star Wars Celebration in Orlando during a special panel titled Star Wars and Disney Parks: A Galaxy in the Making.

During the panel, Trowbridge revealed that the theme parks will be a new location being introduced into the Star Wars cannon for the first time.

"We wanted to build new Star Wars stories, new Star Wars destinations, but this time you could be in that story that required us to go to a new place," he said. "It's a new planet. It's a new place. It's this remote frontier outpost."

Previously, Disney chairman and chief executive officer Bob Iger announced that the Star Wars lands would be opening at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.
