March 31 (UPI) -- Dancing with the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy vows he will "give it my all" to return this season after undergoing surgery on his calf this week.

Chmerkovskiy, 37, hurt himself while practicing with his partner Heather Morris last Friday.

"Thank you all for so much love and support! And for having @heatherrelizabethh back with all your votes," the dancer said in an Instagram post Wednesday. "I'm also very excited about her and @alanbersten Tango next week Please rest assured that I'm taking this thing very seriously and, although I don't have a concrete return date, I'll give it my all!"

People magazine said Chmerkovskiy also offered Morris and his replacement Alan Bersten an update on his recovery via Skype.

"I had a procedure done which is basically... They extracted some of my bone marrow stem cells [and] made a concentrate out of that. [They] mixed it with my plasma-rich protein, if that means anything to anybody out there. They injected it back into my calf," he explained in the online video. "What happens is, when you have these sort of tears, this kind of liquid what it does is fills in little cracks and anything that is torn. So, it starts to regenerate tissue and send all these signals to it and start the healing from the inside."
