March 2 (UPI) -- Daytime soap opera legend Susan Lucci is auctioning off hundreds of her own personal items to help support a charity.

The former All My Children star has teamed up with estate sale marketplace company Everything But the House to sell the items with a portion of the proceeds being donated to United Cerebral Palsy of New York City.

Some of her belongings on sale include dresses, hats, shoes and purses among other high-end clothing items that the actress has worn throughout her career on television and on the red carpet. The auction concludes on March 10 with everything starting at $1.

"It's really more about divesting and lightening up," Lucci explained to Entertainment Tonight about the sale."Many of the things I have I've accumulated over the course of my career and have been photographed on red carpets, have been on All My Children, have been on Devious Maids. And then there's furniture from my dressing room on All My Children and personal articles that mean a lot to me, either from events in my life or just beautiful china that I've accumulated that I'm no longer using," she continued.

Lucci also shared that she chose to help support United Cerebral Palsy of New York City because her 8-year-old grandson Brendan was diagnosed with the disorder.

"At the time, I didn't know anything about cerebral palsy. Ironically, I had been honoured by UCP of New York City several years before that," she said. "I learned so much through them. I learned, for example, that there's a spectrum of cerebral palsy and Brendan, my grandson, would be on the lighter side of that spectrum."

Brendan underwent a procedure last year that has made it easier for him to walk. While displaying a number of dresses that are up for sale during the auction on Today, Lucci discussed Brendan's condition noting that he has "made so much progress."
