Ron Perlman calls Bill Paxton's death a 'gut punch;' other celebs react

Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Countless celebrities took to social media Sunday morning to express their shock and grief over the weekend death of Bill Paxton.

Paxton's family confirmed Sunday the Weird Science, Twister, Titanic and Aliens star died at the age of 61 from complications from surgery.

His fellow character actor Ron Perlman quickly reacted to the news on Twitter, posting a recent photo of them.

"This picture was taken 2 months ago. As you can see, Bill was alive as alive can be. Losing him is a gut punch. Unprocessable. Rest easy b..," Perlman tweeted.

"Bill Paxton was, simply, a wonderful man. A wonderful man... Hanx," Tom Hanks said.

"I am stunned & saddened at the passing of Bill Paxton. I just worked with him recently. A warm and beautiful soul and a talented actor. RIP," wrote Lou Diamond Phillips.

"I always knew you were an angel, Bill. Heaven just got a lot more fun with you in residence. Love you always... #RIP #BillPaxton," offered Gale Anne Hurd.

"Saddened by the shocking loss of Bill Paxton. The greatest guy & wonderful actor. His enthusiasm and passion was infectious. See his films!" urged Ralph Macchio.

"Just heard the so so sad news about my pal #BillPaxton. So talented, special and the sweetest guy you'd ever want to meet. RIP my friend," said Paul Reiser.

"Crushing. #RIPBillPaxton A gr8 talent & spirit. His passion contributed so much 2 #Apollo13 & all his wrk. We'll miss the hell out of U Bill," Ron Howard added.

"RIP Bill Paxton. A truly lovely man and phenomenal talent who shall be missed. Condolences to friends/family/fans," said Orlando Jones.
